Welcome to the website of the Vale of Pickering Internal Drainage Board, or VOPIDB for short.
This site contains useful information for residents, farmers, land owners and developers and for members of the public who are interested in what we do.
The Vale of Pickering Internal Drainage Board is a democratically accountable public body delivering land drainage, land & habitat management and flood risk advice and services to a large area within the Vale of Pickering.
Our primary responsibility is the operation and management of over 310 miles of watercourses which receive water from a surrounding area of over 70,750 acres (28,600 hectares).
This recently established Drainage Board has been formed by the amalgamation of the Muston & Yedingham, Rye and Thornton Internal Drainage Boards on 1st April 2014. The new Board is committed to working closely with farmers and land owners and promoting partnerships with stakeholders such as The Environment Agency, East Yorkshire Rivers Trust, Natural England, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and others in order to deliver sustainable and mutually beneficial solutions to the wide range of issues we all face.
